Total Lunar Eclipse: 3 March 2007

on the 3rd of march, we will be treated to a total lunar eclipse, and the view will be great from here in north america. lunar eclipses occur, as demonstrated in the image below, when the moon passes through the earth's shadow. therefore, sunlight is prevented from being reflected off the moon's surface, and the moon is observed to turn a dark coppery color. it's a beautiful sight! here is the nasa website where you can get information on best to view the eclipse. I decided to wait a day before posting a comment, just so it wouldn't seem like I was too eager.
Going in to the wayback file: a lunar eclipse was actually the reason I started doing photography. We had to do a mini research project for the planetary astronomy class I took my sophomore year (we won't discuss what calendar year that actually was... Sept 27 though, a nice warm fall night) and so I tried to photograph one. The pictures were so bad that the people at the camera store asked if there was something wrong with my camera.
Of course, at that point, I had a camera, so I tried taking pictures of other things...
I saw some great eclipses from NM when I was down there. The January 21, 2000, one was really good.
